Galaxy Watch Designer fails to launch

If you see the error message "Failed to load the JNI shared library C:\<path_to_java>\bin\server\jvm.dll," this indicates that Galaxy Watch Designer (GWD) is using an incompatible version of Java. Install a supported version of Java and update the initialization file to point to the location of this Java.

If you are running GWD 1.6.2 or earlier, you must be using the 32-bit (x86) version of Java 8.

If you are running GWD 1.7.0 or later, you must be using either Java 11 or the 64-bit (x64) version of Java 8.

Refer to Supported Java Versions for information about which Java is compatible with which versions of the GWD.

To install and configure Java 8 for GWD 1.6.2 or earlier:

  1. Install the 32-bit (x86) version of Java 8. Download it from the Java SE 8 Archive Downloads page.
  2. Open C:\Program Files\Galaxy Watch Designer\GalaxyWatchDesigner.ini in Notepad or another text editor.
  3. At the bottom of the file, add the path to the javaw.exe file. For example, if you downloaded version 8u192, add:

    -vm
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_192\bin\javaw.exe

  4. Save your changes.

If this fails to work, try setting your system's Path variable to point to this version of Java (note that when you set your system's Path variable to point to this version of Java, all applications that use the system's Path variable to locate Java will use this 32-bit version of Java 8):

  1. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings.
  2. Click Environment Variables (from the Advanced tab in the System Properties window).
  3. Select Path under System variables and click Edit.
  4. Add C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\<your_java_version>\bin as the first entry.
  5. Click OK.

To install and configure Java 8 or 11 for GWD 1.7.0 or later:

  1. Download Java 11 from the Java SE 11 Archive Downloads page. Download the 64-bit (x64) version of Java 8 from the Java SE 8 Archive Downloads page.
  2. Open C:\Program Files\Galaxy Watch Designer\GalaxyWatchDesigner.ini in Notepad or another text editor.
  3. At the bottom of the file, add the path to the javaw.exe file. For example, if you downloaded version 8u191, add:

    -vm
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_191\bin\javaw.exe

  4. Save your changes.

If this fails to work, try setting your system's Path variable to point to this version of Java (note that when you set your system's Path variable to point to this version of Java, all applications that use the system's Path variable to locate Java will use this version of Java):

  1. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings.
  2. Click Environment Variables (from the Advanced tab in the System Properties window).
  3. Select Path under System variables and click Edit.
  4. Add C:\Program Files\Java\<your_java_version>\bin as the first entry.
  5. Click OK.
